A Note of Thanks and Support

A Note of Thanks and Support

As our journey in this class comes to an end I would like to thank my fellow classmates for all the support, encouragement and advice that you have given me throughout this course.

When I began this course I didn't have a real grasp as to what an Advocacy Action Plan was.  Nor did I have any idea how to develop and present something on this type of professional level.  As an in-home child care provider and Early Childhood Educator I have many goals for myself as well as the children and their families that I provide care for.  This course has given me a deeper insight as to the "why" I love caring for children.

My focus for my Advocacy Action Plan was to help educate the children and families within my internship site regarding the importance of proper nutrition and physical activity.  WOW - when I first wrote this statement I didn't have any idea how much it would become a part of me.

I have really enjoyed this entire Internship course.  YES! It took a great deal of time, patience, questions and support from colleagues - but it was all worth it.  I believe that my plan well supports my research topic and focus.  The goals that I have set are realistic and very achievable.  The day care provider/owner of my field site is very excited about my plan.  She has been so supportive of my goals that she is going to implement my plan in January.

I also want to thank my professor for the support she has given me throughout this entire course.  She was willing to go the extra mile to assure my success.  I believe that she is a "real teacher".  THANK YOU Professor McDevitt!

As this course comes to a close and many of my colleagues like myself are completing their academic careers, I would like encourage them to advocate for those who can't.  Again I will refer to a quote that has given me the drive to always do 150% for those whose lives I may influence.

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter".

by Martin Luther King.

My mother once told me that in school I only would get in trouble for talking in class.  Well I have never been one to be quiet!  So......why should I start now!

Good luck to all!!

  1. Connie,
I love that quote! I believe it is so true when it comes to advocacy. When this class began I was not too sure what an Advocacy Action Plan was either. As the course progressed I was still confused until my plan was completed. I was finally able to see the entire purpose behind it. Connie your advocacy plan to show children and their famnilies about nutrition is so important and you will do great!

  2. Connie,
Best of luck to you as well! I also thank you for your comments on my last post. I did decide to go with a power point. I feel that it is informational enough for my colleagues, but also not over whelming for parents. I also decided to go with a handout besides the power point. I'm hoping it all comes together during the presentation as well as it does in my head!
Best of luck to you as you finish up the last few weeks of your degree. What an exciting time!! Keep advocating for those who can't! This class as reiterated over and over to me how important it is, and how close to my own heart that it is!

Thank you for being a "real student" dedicated to your coursework and not swayed by technology. You embraced the course and me just as, I believe you would have, if this were a face to face course!!

  6. A Note of Thanks and Support
Connie, I am sending a special Thank You! from my heart to yours. I truly appreciate the information that you shared to help make my advocacy action plan and presentation become a success. I realize that this course has been challenging for many of us in different ways however, we were able to pull through any obstacles that came our way. Why? because we were able to lean on each other for support and guidance.
I learned that when we are face with challenges; we gain inner strength that push us forward and think positive in aiming for success.

Through your journey for the future, I wish you the best. The young children that we service are our future. Keep performing at your best and strive to make a difference in whatever you believe in. Our advocacy action is not the end; it is the beginning. I hope that you continue to be an inspiration to someone else. Take what you learned and apply it into your profession. There are always room for improvement so, take advantage of the opportuniity. Again! Thank You and Good Luck
